In accordance with legislation, local authorities must review their Polling Districts and Polling Places every five years. The next compulsory review must be started and completed within a period of 16 months from 1 October 2023 to 31 January 2025.   

East Lothian Council’s review timetable:

  • publish Notice of Review: Monday 6 November 2023
  • proposals published:Monday 4 December 2023
  • commencement of public consultation: Monday 4 December 2023
  • end of public consultation:  Monday 29 January 2024
  • final proposals considered by: Monday 8 April 2024                   
  • approval sought at East Lothian Council meeting: Tuesday 23 April 2024

The Notice of Review was published on 6 November.

Any persons or bodies making representations should, if possible, give alternative places that may be used as polling places.

The following criteria will be used to assess polling places as part of this review:

  • availability
  • accessibility
  • safety, for both staff and voters
  • current electorate
  • projected electorate
  • number of postal voters

Please note, any changes approved by East Lothian Council will not take effect until after the next UK general election, which is scheduled to be held no later than 28 January 2025.
