East Lothian Young Carers
Even if you don’t feel like you need help for a problem, it is always good to have the support of others who understand your situation.
East Lothian Young Carers supports young carers who provide care for another family member. The most important thing we do is listening to you and supporting you. We can also help you with problems at school and help you to get the chance to have some fun.
- Run young carers clubs
- Provide one-to-one support
- Support young carers at meetings (for example, meetings about their relative's care)
- Provide information and support to young carers and their families.
Meeting one of our workers
When we write to you, we will let you know the name of the worker who will be in touch with you to come for a visit. This visit can be at home, but if you are not comfortable about speaking in front of the person that you care for, we can arrange to visit you at school instead.
All young carers are different and our worker will discuss with you the type of support that will be best for you. When we have talked about the sort of service that you would like from East Lothian Young Carers, we will write to you to let you know a start date.
When you start receiving a service from East Lothian Young Carers, we will give you an information pack with all the information that you need.
How do I join?
Anyone can make a referral to us and you can refer yourself. All that needs to happen is that someone - you, a teacher, a social worker, your parent, your nurse or GP - gets in touch with us to let us know your situation. Once we have received your referral, we will write to you (and the person who made the referral) to let them know we have received a referral for you.
