Cockenzie Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme

Cockenzie Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme is a joint funding initiative between East Lothian Council and Historic Environment Scotland. Running from 2019-2022, the scheme will provide funding to traditional building owners to repair and conserve their properties, and in doing so help regenerate the historic area.Sketches done at a workshop in Cockenzie

Applications to the Scheme close on the 31 March 2022 and all projects must be completed by December 2022. Grants are awarded at a rate of 70% of the approved eligible costs for each project. Aims

  • Assist homeowners (and tenants where applicable) with external repairs of their historic buildings to a conservation standard
  • Engage the visitors and the local communuty with Cockenzie's built and cultural heritage
  • Provide opportunities for local contractors to improve and upskill in traditional building skills and methods

Priorities

  • Repair and re-use of redundant or underused buildings
  • Repair and conservation of buildings in use.
  • Reinstatement of lost architectural detail
