Message from the Head of Education and Children’s Services

Dear Parents and Carers

As you will be aware, the First Minister has announced that East Lothian will move in to COVID-19 protection level 2 from Tuesday 24 November 2020.

Parents and carers will recall that protection level 3 had additional enhanced protective measures. These included the need for all staff and pupils to wear a face covering during lessons in the senior phase.
In addition, there was also the need for parents and carers to discuss with their clinician whether children with the highest clinical risk should still attend school.

Whilst moving to protection level 2 is to be welcomed, we are being urged to remain very cautious. This is to ensure that any relaxation of the restrictions do not result in a further spike in the prevalence of the virus.

COVID-19 continues to present a significant risk to public health and the progress which has been made is very fragile. Whilst the wearing of face coverings in lessons in the senior phase is no longer mandatory, we would encourage staff and pupils to continue to wear them wherever possible.

It is also important that we all continue to follow the really important guidance and public health advice. This will help everyone to stay safe and reduce the risk of COVID-19 in our schools.

Thank you again for all of your support.

Yours sincerely

Lesley Brown
