Prestongrange

For over 400 years Prestongrange was a focus of industry. A harbour, glass works, pottery, colliery and brickworks have all left their marks on the landscape including winding gear, a vast brick kiln and a Cornish beam engine.

Brick building with beam engine

Our Engine Shed houses collection of locomotives and wagons and can be seen on a site tour or by arrangement. The site Visitor Centre is open in the summer months (current opening hours are noted below). There is an exhibition about the site and a free audio tour available using headsets borrowed from the Visitor Centre. To enhance your visit why not take one of our guided tours? These cost £5 per person and last around 1 hour and 20 minutes and are led by our knowledgeable staff. Tours usually leave at 11:30am and 2:00pm although we will do our best to help if you would like a tour outside this time.

If you visit outside of our opening hours or open season you can still access our audio tour using your mobile phone. All the tracks are available on the John Gray Centre website (one of our sister museums) along with a site map. Why not download them to your phone before you visit or use our free WiFi on site. The Visitor Centre Wifi is accessible all year, just scan for 'ELC-Guest Wifi' (outside the Visitor Centre) and connect using the page with our falcon logo shown on it.

You can also enjoy a welcome refreshment at our Pithead Canteen Café (located inside the Visitor Centre). Details of the current programme are available on the events and exhibitions pages and through Facebook. We welcome group visits and would be delighted to discuss your requirements with you. You can find accessibility information by visiting the Euan's Guide website or you can contact us for more detailed information.
