A consultation to decide the name for the ‘new’ primary school for Prestonpans has opened.

The council is proceeding with plans to close Prestonpans Infant and Nursery School and Prestonpans Primary school and establish a new single school offering education from nursery to Primary 7 for the catchment area. The new school will operate from the existing buildings. The decision follows a single school consultation held in Autumn 2018 with staff, parents and the school community, and the Scottish Government’s decision not to “call in” the proposals.

Suggestions for new names will be collected, along with explanations of why that name is suitable, before a shortlist of the most popular names is created. A vote for the most popular name will then be undertaken by pupils, parents and the wider community.

The consultation runs from Friday 22 February until Friday 29th March 2019. Suggestions can be submitted in the following ways:

• By visiting the East Lothian Council Consultation Hub.
• By email to educationconsultations@eastlothian.gov.uk
• By letter to School Name Consultation, John Muir House, Brewery Park, Haddington, EH41 3HA
