Kashell joined us on Monday as a Modern Apprentice in Council Support working across our Education and Freedom of Information teams.

I’ve always wanted to get into an apprenticeship... I’m looking forward to it

It’ll be a busy role juggling all aspects of business administration but it’s one that she’s excited about “I’ve always wanted to get into an apprenticeship like this so I’m looking forward to it,” she says.

Kashell was pursuing a career in the beauty, having trained and qualified in that industry. However she was looking beyond that field and considering her options. She felt a role in business administration would suit her skills and interests – as well as providing a 9-to-5 environment not common in her previous sector. “Admin and Business were my favourite subjects at school so that’s what made me interested in jobs like this. I’ve always wanted to work within an office environment” explains Kashell.

Modern Apprentices are paid roles that contribute to the work of the council across many different services. Apprentices gain a broad range of skills and work experiences and the council benefits from their skills, enthusiasm and fresh perspective. Kashell will meet with Caroline from Limelight Careers throughout her apprenticeship to ensure that she is getting the right blend of skills and experiences.

It may be early days but Kashell is already getting involved in projects and settling into her new team. “Everyone’s been really nice so far and helping me out when I need it,” she says. “I’m looking forward to learning new things.”
