Whirlpool has issued a recall for over 500,000 washing machines.
The company announced that specific models of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines made between 2014 and 2018 are affected by a door lock defect which may cause the machine to catch fire.
The corporation said it would begin replacing the units from January 2020.
The Chartered Trading Standards Institute has advised that consumers should check the official product model list to see if their washing machine is part of the recall. Whirlpool has set up a helpline on 0800 316 1442 to assist affected consumers.
