An afternoon of celebrations will take place on Saturday 15 February to mark the official opening of Whitecraig Village Hub.

The afternoon will be a chance to celebrate the Village Hub and the wonderful community spirit that exists.

A free programme of activities for all ages will be on offer to give the community a taster of the wide variety of events they can enjoy in the new centre. This includes Kids Street Dance, Family Fitness, Senior Movements, Bookbug, face-painting and Children’s Crafts. Deantown Bowling Club will offer a family bowling session as part of the day.

Depute Provost Cllr Andy Forrest will conduct an official opening ceremony with celebratory cake and refreshments at 3.30pm. He said: “I’m delighted that we are able to open the doors widely, invite people in to view this amazing new facility and take part in a range of activities. Whitecraig and all of its groups have been hugely supportive throughout the development of the new Village Hub and the afternoon will be a chance to celebrate the centre itself and the wonderful community spirit that exists. I hope people will come along prepared to take part in the many taster sessions on offer.”

Whitecraig Village Hub is a £1.4m community facility, which was designed by the council’s in-house team and constructed by Hadden Group. The building is fully accessible and combines a large multi-function hall, meeting rooms, a kitchen and toilets/changing facilities including facilities for bowling. The council’s local Connected Communities staff will work with local groups to plan a range of activities tailored for people of all ages.

Jane Cummings Community Development Officer said: “We’re really looking forward to showing these new facilities to members of the wider Whitecraig community. People can also book rooms for meetings or events such as birthday parties.”

Whitecraig Village Hub is located at 72 Whitecraig Avenue, Whitecraig EH21 8PB.
