Carers Week 2020

East Lothian Integration Joint Board (IJB) Chair, Councillor Fiona O’Donnell asks us all to celebrate the vital work of unpaid carers across East Lothian.

She says:

‘I want to make sure that all our unpaid carers are recognised for the way they are dealing with the difficulties they are experiencing. I cannot tell you how much I respect them for the way they have responded during these challenging times.

‘This year, unpaid carers across East Lothian are continuing to face new challenges as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Many people are taking on more caring responsibilities for their relatives and friends who are disabled, ill or older and who need support.

‘I want to make sure that all our unpaid carers are recognised for the way they are dealing with the difficulties they are experiencing. I cannot tell you how much I respect them for the way they have responded during these challenging times.

‘The theme of Carers Week 2020 is “Making caring visible”, and I think that’s absolutely right. Caring's impact on all aspects of life from relationships and health to finances and work should not be underestimated.  So, please make sure that you ask for help, get a carer’s assessment and access to the help and support you need.’

She added:

‘I’d just like to thank East Lothian Carers organisations too – Carers of East Lothian, East Lothian Young Carers and Bridges – for the amazing support they have been providing to carers of all ages by phone and online.  They are doing a fantastic job.’
