East Lothian Council’s Planning Committee met remotely on Tuesday 6th October and considered an application for 232 houses and 42 flats on part of the wider Letham Mains site in Haddington.
The site had been identified for housing in the East Lothian Local Development Plan 2018 and a pre-application consultation event had been held in 2018.
Letham Mains to the north of the application site, was allocated for around 800 homes plus education and community facilities, and is already being developed. This application refers to the field to the southwest corner of that larger site. A total of 69 affordable homes will be incorporated.
Committee members agreed unanimously to approve the application but with the added condition that no vehicular access would be allowed from the unclassified road at Letham Mains holdings – something local residents had expressed concern about. Instead, the access into the site from this road would be purely for pedestrians and cyclists.
The relevant application number is 19/00643/PM.
