Community Wardens help to collect donations for Foodbank

The Council’s Community Warden service received a request for assistance from the East Lothian Foodbank to help with Christmas donations collections from Tesco stores in Musselburgh, Haddington and North Berwick.

What generous and caring communities we have in East Lothian

Mandy Smith, Team Leader, Community Wardens

Mandy Smith, Team Leader, Community Wardens, said: “The team were more than happy to assist such a laudable project that provides much needed support to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.  We sourced vehicles to meet this request with wardens volunteering their own time to collect the bulk of collections on Saturday morning followed by another collection on Monday.”

“In addition to collecting and loading the donations from the stores the team also weighed the loads which totalled an amazing 3,230 kg which clearly shows what generous and caring communities we have in East Lothian.”

Candace Higgins, East Lothian Foodbank Director, added: “Quite simply, we wouldn't have been able to cope this year without the incredible support of the Community Wardens. They have worked tirelessly to support us, nothing has been too much, they have been so generous with their time. We cannot thank them enough for what they have done for us and in turn the East Lothian community, they are fundamentally wonderful people.”
