An East Lothian primary school community has started the New Year with a new Head Teacher following a successful recruitment campaign for the position.

Innerwick and Stenton Primary Schools began the search for a new Head Teacher in November 2020 following former postholder Ronnie Taylor’s move to Gullane Primary School. Mrs Jo Legge, Depute Head Teacher at Dunbar Primary School was appointed to the role and joined the schools from the start of the 2021 term.

Stoneyhill Primary School will also be welcoming a new Head Teacher soon with the appointment of Ms Kate Whiteley to the position. Ms Whiteley will be joining the school from Leslie Primary School, Glenrothes, where she has been on secondment to the post of Acting Head Teacher although her substantive post is Head Teacher of Aberdour Primary School. The move comes after Stoneyhill’s previous Head Teacher, Miss Fiona Macartney, accepted the substantive position as Head Teacher of Whitecraig Primary School. It is expected that Ms Whiteley will join the school at the beginning of February.

Cabinet member for Education and Children’s Services Councillor Shamin Akhtar said: “I’m pleased that we have been able to confirm these positions to our school communities. Both appointments have considerable school leadership experience and they impressed the interview panels with their enthusiasm, leadership qualities and commitment to supporting children and families. We know that the school communities will make them feel welcome in their roles and look forward to supporting them as part of our East Lothian education family.”
