Recruitment campaigns are underway to find Head Teachers for three East Lothian schools.

New leaders are sought for Musselburgh Grammar School, North Berwick High School and West Barns Primary School. The adverts went live on the online portal myjobscotland.gov.uk on Friday 12 February. The closing date for the posts is 28 February 2021.

Cabinet member for Education and Children’s Services Councillor Shamin Akhtar said: “These are exciting opportunities for any Head Teacher considering a new challenge, or for a school leader looking to progress their career with a move into Headship.

“Our Head Teachers are well supported in their roles by the Education team, their colleagues in other schools, and by active and vibrant parent communities.

"We’re looking for dynamic individuals with the background, skills and confidence to build on the good work of their predecessors and inspire their teams to drive forward excellence, attainment and school improvement.”

Musselburgh Grammar Head Teacher Colin Gerrie is set to leave the school at the end of the school session in June 2021 to pursue a new position as Head of Greenfield International School, Dubai, while Lauren Rodger, Head Teacher at North Berwick High School will retire at the end of session, June 2021. Laura Hay, who has been acting Head Teacher at West Barns Primary School was recently appointed to the position of Depute Head Teacher at Dunbar Primary, leading to the vacancy at West Barns.

Councillor Ahktar added: “We will work closely with the schools’ Parent Councils throughout the recruitment process and look forward to updating the wider communities in due course.”
