Finance Officer Matt helps highlight the great opportunities to work with East Lothian Council.

"One of the great things about working here is the variety of services - you really feel like you can make a difference." Matt is pictured smiling next to this quote from him, with the East Lothian Council logo at the bottom.

We’re currently recruiting to a number of posts within our Finance Service – including two Financial Accountants and a Finance Business Partner.

Matt Conlon, one of our Finance Officers, says East Lothian Council is a great place to work.

“I really enjoy the variety of the work”, explains Matt, who joined us in July 2021. “I really like the people I work with and it’s a supportive working environment.”

He highlights a number of benefits for council employees.

“The council has given good support during the pandemic, with clear information from the Executive Team about homeworking and the supports which are in place when things have been difficult.

“There are flexible working policies available in many roles and you get to join the local government pension scheme. There are a number of colleagues who have worked here for a long time and that means a good level of knowledge and experience has built up, which I feel I benefit from as a newer employee.”

Matt enjoyed participating in the council’s induction programme.

“It included an opportunity to meet the Chief Executive and Council Leader alongside other new recruits, and hear about their priorities,” he explains.

“There are good networks in place which I feel can help me develop myself, with mechanisms within the council to support personal and professional development.”

Matt says that it’s an interesting time to come on board and he highlights the part played by his team.

“While it is a challenging time financially, the council is doing important work to improve services for local communities, and Finance plays a key role in supporting departments to achieve this,” adds Matt

“One of the central purposes of council services is to deliver best value. Most of the council’s budget comes from central government so we have an important role to play in supporting departments in the management of their budgets, helping to inform decisions about spending priorities.

“Another one of the great things is the variety of services – you really feel like you can help make a difference.”

Current roles include:

Finance Business Partner

Financial Accountants

Systems Assistant

Graduate Intern - Corporate Finance
