Temporary road closure to allow for essential drainage works

A main arterial route out of Musselburgh is to be closed for five days to allow emergency drainage works to be undertaken.

Works will be carried out beneath the Monktonhall Railway Bridge with a Temporary Traffic Order (TTRO) closing the road from 06:00hrs on Monday 17 October until 23:59hrs on Friday 21 October 2022. A road closure is required to undertake works safely on this narrow section of road. To minimise disruption, the works have been scheduled during the school holidays.

A council spokesperson said: “This road closure is essential to facilitate repair of the drainage infrastructure to alleviate the recent flooding issues which have impacted on this main arterial route to and from Musselburgh. East Lothian Council's priority is to minimise disruption to residents and drivers so we have put in place a 5 day work programme that coordinates construction work to ensure a timeous completion ahead of the schools returning.”

Diversion signs will be in place throughout the works. A copy of the road closure notice (TTRO 402/22/R.McN) is available online from www.tellmescotland.gov.uk

Discussions have been held with transport providers that operate in the area. Prentice Coaches has confirmed that it will operate the 111 service normally to the top of Whitehill Farm Road, it will then divert via Queen Margaret University and the A1 to Old Craighall Services and re-join the route there.  On the return journey Service 111 will operate normally to Old Craighall then divert via the A1 turning at the ASDA roundabout before heading back along the A1 to QMU and re-join the standard route at the top of Whitehill Farm Road.
