East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership’s Primary Care Vaccination Team are making preparations to deliver a new vaccination service from East Lothian Community Hospital, Haddington from Monday 19 June 2023.

East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership would like to express its gratitude to East Lothian Council for its extended lease of the Haddington Corn Exchange, which has played a crucial role in supporting the delivery of the county-wide Covid-19 vaccinations, and subsequent boosters, flu, shingles and pneumococcal vaccination programmes.Image of a nurse holding a vaccination needle, with cotton buttons and disinfectant wipes on the table

The new vaccination clinic at East Lothian Community Hospital will be open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.  In addition the Vaccination Teams will continue to operate their dedicated vaccination clinics at both Musselburgh Primary Care Centre and the Edington Hospital, North Berwick.

In response to public feedback, the Primary Care Vaccination Team are currently making preparations to provide an additional vaccination clinic in Dunbar, based out of the Belhaven Hospital.   It is hoped this will open in time for the autumn / winter vaccination programme.

Currently the vaccination team are focussing their efforts on providing the Spring Covid-19 booster to all eligible individuals.   Shortly, the team will reprioritise the roll out of shingles and pneumococcal vaccinations, before commencing on the annual flu programme alongside any announcement on further Covid-19 boosters.

All eligible individuals will be continue to be contacted directly and offered appointments to attend one of the designated vaccination clinics.   Should the allocated appointment be unsuitable, there is the opportunity to reschedule appointments using the contact details provided in the invite.

Support to access vaccination hub venues for individuals with mobility issues continues to be available from the Royal Voluntary Service. In addition the Vaccination Bus will continue to be used to support key vaccination programmes providing local access for county residents.  The drop-in and vaccination bus schedule is publicised on NHS inform, www.eastlothian.gov.uk/elhscp/vaccinations and ELHSCP social media.

Fiona Wilson, comments, “Since the launch of the country wide Covid-19 vaccination programme, the Primary Care teams have gone above and beyond, to reach as many people as possible and provide the protection against the virus.  Like other vaccines, levels of protection may reduce over time, so it important that eligible individuals continue to receive the booster doses when offered.”

“We are incredibly grateful to East Lothian Council, and the Communities and Estates Service in particular, for granting us a special lease to occupy the Haddington Corn Exchange.  Likewise we offer our sincere thanks to Haddington High Street business for their kindness, generosity and support.  The Corn Exchange has proven to be an invaluable location to host our vaccination programme to date, and for this I offer my sincere thanks to both the Council and the community.”
