Road resurfacing works will be carried out on North Berwick’s High Street and Market Place over the weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 22 and 23 March).

The work will be undertaken in phases to minimise disruption, but it will be necessary to close the section of road attributed to each phase to vehicular traffic.

On the High Street, the road will be closed to vehicles between Quality Street and Market Place on Saturday from 8am to 6pm.

There will be a parking suspension in effect on Quality Street to facilitate the works.

An additional parking suspension will operate on the High Street at its junction with Market Place to accommodate traffic accessing the High Street from Market Place.

On Sunday, Market Place will be closed to vehicles between 8am and 4pm.

There will be a corresponding parking suspension on the High Street at its junction with Market Place to accommodate through traffic on the High Street.

Exceptional shopping and dining experience

Local access will be maintained where practicable to the sections of the High Street/Market Place that remain open during each phase and pedestrian access will be maintained.

The contractor operating on behalf of East Lothian Council will place signs and no waiting cones at each phase in advance of the work.

A diversion route will be signed accordingly during each phase, and emergency vehicle access will always be maintained.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “This resurfacing work has been carefully planned to minimise inconvenience. The road and footpath works on the High Street, which began last month, are also nearing completion.

“The High Street area has continued to offer an exceptional shopping and dining experience to the local community and visitors alike throughout the works period. We are grateful for the support from businesses and residents while these improvements are completed.”
