Residents are reminded to register for a 2025/2026 garden waste collection permit by 3pm on Friday, 4 July as there will be NO second sign-up window.
Applications can be made using a myeastlothian account on our website with a permit costing £35 – the same price as last year.
The sign-up window was launched on 12 May to give residents eight weeks to register for the scheme.
In 2024 the registration period was much shorter, so an additional sign-up window was opened towards the end of August.
There will be no second window this year. Anyone who does not sign up and pay for a permit before 3pm on 4 July will not receive any garden waste collections between 1 September 2025 and 28 August 2026.
Strict deadline
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “The registration window has been extended to eight weeks this year and the deadline will be strictly adhered to. Please make sure to sign up and pay by Friday, 4 July as this will be your only opportunity to benefit from the 2025/2026 collection service.”
If you do not have a brown bin at your property, register for a permit then contact wasteservices@eastlothian.gov.uk to order a bin and the council will arrange to have one delivered to your address.
Permit stickers will be delivered in August to every household which signs up showing the address and permit number for the registered property. Council collection crews will only empty brown bins with a valid sticker clearly displayed and they will check the sticker details match the address. There is a strict limit of one brown bin per household.
Residents will also receive a calendar with the permit pack displaying the day and week of their bin collection.
Garden waste including grass cuttings, leaves, bark, flowers, plants, hedge trimmings, weeds, twigs and small branches are all accepted in brown bins.
