Ormiston Park Pump Track hosted an Edinburgh Festival of Cycling event on Saturday, 7 June – the first time one of its showcases has been held in East Lothian.

More than 30 young people and their families took part in free pump track and flatland BMX sessions delivered by top coaches Ashley Armstrong and Reece Thompson.

The Edinburgh Festival of Cycling (EdFoC) celebrates all aspects of cycling in and around Edinburgh and the Lothians, from sustainable travel and leisure to adventure and sport. EdFoC seeks to challenge traditional perceptions of cycling, demonstrating its diverse benefits and aiming to position the Lothians as a premier international cycling destination.

East Lothian is set to further boost its cycling infrastructure with the development of new pump tracks across the county. These innovative facilities are more than just tracks — they are vibrant community spaces that encourage physical activity, social interaction, and skill-building. Designed for riders of all ages and abilities, pump tracks feature compact, looping circuits with rollers and banked turns suitable for bikes, scooters, skateboards, and even adapted wheelchairs, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for everyone.

Like the Ormiston Park Pump Track which opened in 2021, the forthcoming tracks in East Lothian are being designed by Velosolutions which kindly donated water bottles and T-shirts to participants at Saturday’s event.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “The Ormiston Park event marks a significant milestone in East Lothian’s commitment to fostering a healthy, active, and connected community through cycling. With continued investment and enthusiasm, the region is pedalling confidently towards a more sustainable and dynamic future.”
