Essential road closures put in place in Tranent to facilitate emergency works

Road closures have been put in place at Tranent’s Church Street between Bridge Street and the northernmost junction with Elder Street, and an area of Sanderson’s Wynd beside its junction with Church Street.

The closures have been put in place to allow SGN to undertake emergency gas investigations at Church Street and the Coal Authority to make safe an area of subsidence at the western end of Sanderson’s Wynd.

A local diversion route will be in place throughout. Bus services will update their timetables and routes accordingly – passengers should check with their operator.

Both SGN and the Coal Authority are on site. The essential closures will remain in place until both organisations advise their emergency works are completed and the routes can safely reopen.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “The road closures has been put in place to allow these essential emergency works to go ahead. We are liaising with both SGN and the Coal Authority and the roads will reopen when activities are safely completed. Traffic should follow the signed diversion route to avoid putting undue pressure on surrounding residential streets. We will update the community as soon as we can and are grateful for their patience.”
