Repair works on a sinkhole in Dunbar caused by a breach of the sea wall are underway.

The area affected on Lamer Street, adjacent to the East Beach, remains secured with signage and fencing in place. People are asked not to enter the closed off area. Lamer Street remains closed to through traffic and pedestrians.

Work to stabilise the area and prevent further deterioration commenced on Friday morning.

While there is not believed to be any disruption to customer utility supplies at present, council teams continue to closely monitor the situation and are liaising with utility companies.

Plans are also progressing at pace to carry out a permanent repair that allows the road to re-open as soon as practical. Information on the timescale for this will be shared when available.

The specific section of Lamer Street affected on this occasion is slightly further along the road from the sinkhole in 2023.

We will continue to keep the community updated as we manage and respond to the issue.
