2022-23 Completed projects

When the local community and students at Queen Margaet University raised concerns around flooding at the rail underpass between Craighall Drive and Monktonhall Place in Musselburgh, we took action. The underpass is a key pedestrian and cyclist link within Musselburgh, and was impassable during times of high rainfall. Additionally, an old barrier originally installed to deter motor bikes was blocking access for bicycles and prams.

Our roads and engineering team developed a design for a new path and worked with Queen Margaret University to secure funding from the Ian Findlay Path Fund administered by Paths for All. Construction was completed in July 2023 and has provided the local community with an accessible and well lit shared-use path with an engineered drainage solution which will ensure access is maintained all year round. It is acknowledged that the character of the area has changed with the construction of new houses, but if motor bike use again becomes a problem, we will endevour to find a way to mitigate the nuisance while maintaintaining access for all.
