Community safety and crime

About the Community Protection Team

The Community Protection Team was formed in September 2023 replacing the Safer Communities Team. The team is geographically split between East and West.

The Team contains two Team Leaders, two Senior Community Protection Officers (Antisocial Behaviour), two Mediation Officers, seven Community Protection Officers and one Dog Warden.

Primary role of our Community Protection Officers

We work in partnership with other council services, officers from Police Scotland, members of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and a variety of community organisations in addressing all forms of community safety related issues.

The Community Protection Officers are also responsible for taking action against those who fly-tip, litter and dog owners who fail to "pick-up" after their dog(s) have fouled. They also investigate complaints of abandoned vehicles and support the Dog Warden in the discharge of their duties, including, picking up strays, investigating dog-on-dog attacks and providing advice within the context of dog barking complaints.

Officers will also assist the Senior Community Protection Officers in the investigation of property-based antisocial behaviour cases.
