Scottish Childmining Association Drop-in Session

The Scottish Childmining Association (SCMA) is leading a recruitment drive to train and support new childminders in East Lothian. The Programme for Scotland’s Childminding Future (PSCF) aims to create new sustainable childminding businesses.

With a shortage of childminders in the area and increase in demand for childcare, there’s no better time to think about a new career providing high-quality, flexible childcare locally.

A package of support is available to help you get started, with a minimum £750 start-up grant, unique package of childminding-specific training and one-to-one support from a dedicated SCMA Workforce Officer who helps support candidates at every stage of their journey.

On Tuesday 14 October, in partnership with East Lothian Council’s Economic Development and East Lothian Works, SCMA are hosting a Drop-in Session in The Star Room, John Gray Centre, Haddington, EH41 3DX from 10am to 12pm. It’s open to any East Lothian resident who has an interest in childminding and would like to learn more about this programme and the support available.

You don't need to book for this event, just pop in and see if becoming a childminder could be an option for you. No previous childcare experience is required to become a childminder, but you should be passionate about working with children.  It’s a rewarding career which provides the opportunity to contribute to children’s development, learning and wellbeing and provides a valuable childcare service within the local community. Childminders are self-employed business owners who come from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds, and they often switch to a career in professional childminding to enable them to combine caring for their own children, whilst running their own business from home and earning an income.

This event is part of East Lothian Council’s wider East Lothian Business Month activities and members of Economic Development and Business Gateway East Lothian teams will also be on hand to offer support and guidance.
