Message to parents/carers: gmail messages

Dear parents and carers

I am writing to offer an update on yesterday’s email chain caused by pupils’ misuse of our email system and the ongoing work to respond to it.

Council officers worked through the night to respond to the initial issues and put in place measures to contain their circulation. Our teams are now leading on the recall and deletion of the large volume of emails circulated yesterday between the first message being sent at 11.24am and Gmail being disabled at 11.40am.

It has been agreed that all edubuzz accounts will be suspended from today to allow this work to complete. This means there will be no access to google classroom or google drive among other products until the system is reinstated; this is a priority for officers and we will confirm when this work is completed.

The move is essential to enable IT security colleagues to complete the recall. Your child’s school will manage the temporary loss of access to these channels in a way that minimises any disruption to learners.

Going forward, measures will be put in place to prevent similar misuse of our email systems.

We would like to again reassure all parents and carers that this is not the result of third party or external action.

Thank you in advance for your patience and support.
