Intervention and Prevention

Working with people to help them reduce their offending is a key part of community supervision, whether it’s used instead of a prison sentence or as support after release on licence.

Connect Group

The Connect Women’s Group supports women who have offended or are at risk of offending.

Connect uses a trauma‑informed approach to help women regain control of their lives, with a strong focus on physical, emotional, and psychological safety.

Sessions vary, and can focus on:

  • Communication
  • Self‑esteem
  • Managing stress
  • Understanding emotions
  • Decision‑making
  • Fitness
  • Crafts
  • Meditation
  • Outdoor activities

Connect gives women:

  • A safe space and time away from daily pressures
  • Skills that build motivation and confidence
  • Better understanding of their own emotions, actions, and behaviours

After completing the group, women can move on to other courses or supports that help reduce their risk of further offending.

What women who have attended the Connect Women's Group have said:

Paula, who completed the programme, said it was supportive, caring, and community‑focused. She learned:
