Free Bus Travel for Under-22s

The Scottish Government has announced plans to commence the new Young Persons’ Free Bus Travel Scheme from 31 January 2022.

Subject to Parliamentary approval of the necessary legislation to increase the age limit, which will be laid in draft in August, the scheme will apply to young people resident in Scotland, between the ages of 5 and 21 inclusive.

This means around 930,000 young people across Scotland will benefit from the new scheme which will embed more sustainable travel behaviours from a young age.

The Scottish Government continues to work with its partners at the Improvement Service, the National Entitlement Card Programme Office and Young Scot to deliver the scheme.
