Health Physics Monitor Apprentice, Torness, Dunbar

You will provide safety-related advice to operators by taking radiation and contamination measurements using specialist equipment, interpreting the results and applying them to real life scenarios. You will need to be comfortable working with numbers and completing mental calculations as you will not always have access to a calculator. The role is critical to ensuring safe operations in nuclear facilities and requires a high level of attention to detail, quality and accuracy in recording and interpreting measurements. You will need to have a positive attitude to health, safety and quality.

During the course of this 2-year Apprenticeship, you’ll learn from our industry-leading experts and gain valuable experience, whilst studying for Level 2 qualifications in Radiation Protection. You can expect on-the-job training and the kind of practical experience you simply can’t get in a classroom.

To be eligible for this EDF apprenticeship programme, applicants must hold five National 5 qualifications or five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including English, Maths, and a Science or Engineering subject, or a relevant Level 2 qualification.

This role involves tasks that require compliance with health and safety regulations. Therefore, candidates must be at least 18 years old by the start date of the apprenticeship.

You’re self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to balance study with work. You’ll have strong attention to detail and a positive attitude towards health, safety and quality.

  • Estate Work: Participate in broader estate maintenance activities such as path care, fence repairs, and upkeep of garden fixtures to ensure the overall aesthetics and safety of the grounds

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the head gardener and other estate staff, contributing to team objectives and participating in planning discussions for garden development

Skills

  • Enthusiasm for Horticulture: A genuine interest in gardening and a desire to develop practical skills in horticulture and estate management.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions, including lifting, bending, and extended periods of standing or walking

Project Office, I Bike Schools Programme, East Lothian

As the Project Officer, you will support schools across East Lothian to increase active travel, such as walking, wheeling and cycling. Your work will help pupils, staff and local communities travel in healthier and more sustainable ways.

In this role, you will plan and deliver a range of activities, events and lessons. These activities are designed to encourage people to choose active travel when going to school or work. You will spend time working with teachers, parents, pupils and community members to make these activities successful.

We’re looking for someone who has experience and understanding in the areas listed below. You don’t need to meet every requirement — if you feel you’d be a good fit, we encourage you to apply

  • At least 3 years of experience working with community groups.  This can be paid work or voluntary work. 
  • An understanding of Active Travel (walking, wheeling, cycling) and the challenges faced by communities who experience inequality or barriers.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and how to follow safe working practices with children, young people and adults. 
  • Experience leading group workshops and presenting information clearly, both online and in person.

Contract: Fixed term contract until 30 June 2027 (with possible extension)

Location: Selected Schools in East Lothian and flexibility to work from home when not delivering in-school sessions.
