Carer Assistant, Prestonpans

This is an exciting and rare opportunity for an enthusiastic person to join our team at Harlawhill Day Care Centre in Prestonpans. The job would involve providing care for elderly members within the Day Centre as well as acting as an escort on the morning or afternoon bus.

The service operates Monday – Friday transporting elderly members to and from the Day Centre where they will receive care as and when required throughout the day.

This position as a carer escort would be for 25 hours per week arranged between 9.30am/4.30pm and cover the bus escort and core hours when the members are in the centre.

Duties

Attending to the comfort, security and safety of our members whilst being transported to and from the Day Centre. Providing supervision of our members during transport and aiding the driver/attendant as required.

To ensure that our members, who are vulnerable, elderly, socially excluded or have increased physical needs and those with varying degrees of Dementia receive the highest quality care whilst attending Harlawhill Day Care Centre.

  • Assist members with all personal, psychological and emotional care, considering an individual person-centred approach
  • Ensure member’s records are maintained daily, informing the Manager of any changes affecting their care
  • Assist with seating and distribution of food to members and assist in their feeding as and when required, reporting any problems to the Manager
  • Assist in the provision of activities for our members, ensuring that they are fully engaged and participating
  • Provide emotional and practical support to members, their Carers and families
  • Provide cover for other members of staff
  • Carry out any other reasonable request by the Manager

Qualifications

An SVQ in Adult & Social Care to a minimum of level 2 or other relevant caring qualifications.

PVG Membership - This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
