Developing the aims and objectives for health and social care services in East Lothian

East Lothian's Integration Joint Board (IJB) is developing its Strategic Plan for 2025-2030.

The IJB Strategic Plan sets out the broad aims and objectives that will guide how it will make decisions and prioritise resources delegated to it over the next 5-years (2025-2030) to meet the health and social care needs of East Lothian.

It is important to recognise a Strategic Plan is not an action plan.  Rather, the Strategic Plan explains:

  • the context in which the plan exists, such as the current social, economic, demographic and health challenges of East Lothian,
  • the anticipated needs of the local population, based on available evidence and local data and
  • how the IJB aims to focus its decision-making and allocate the available resources to ensure service delivery meets the health and social care needs of the people of East Lothian.

What and who is the Health and Social Care Partnership and Integration Joint Board?

The IJB is required to produce its strategic plan in cooperation with the community. This means asking for ideas, feedback and comments on the content of the plan throughout its development. The IJB must carefully consider the views of the community when putting together its final strategic plan and explain its decisions.

Who can participate?

  • Anyone living in East Lothian.
  • People representing, participating in or working for groups or organisations that support people in East Lothian.
  • Staff that work for ELHSCP, East Lothian Council, NHS Lothian and would like to express their views on the draft objectives in relation to delivering the health and social care services to the community.

How to participate:

What do we want to know:

  • Do you agree the strategic objectives meet the needs of the people of East Lothian?
  • Do you have any comments or feedback on what is being prioritised?
  • Do you have any suggestions as to how we can improve the strategic objectives and/or delivery priorities?
  • Do you have any other comments?

East Lothian Context

The way in which we plan, prepare and deliver health and social care services is very much aligned to demography and population health, existing health inequalities within our county borders, the financial and economic climate that we operate in.

How do these factors influence our decision making?  Read more

1. Transformation and Change

We will transform, or significantly change, how services are planned and delivered to ensure that population needs can be met as effectively as possible within the resources available, whilst continuing to prioritise delivery of the outcomes that matter to individuals.

2. Prevention, Early Intervention and Self-Management

We will continue to invest in services and activities that focus on prevention and early intervention and that support people to look after their health and wellbeing.

3. Reducing Health Inequalities

We will prioritise the delivery of services to improve health and social care outcomes for those most disadvantaged in our communities and will work with partners to address the factors that contribute to health inequalities.
