The East Lothian Educational Trust provides grants to individuals, groups and clubs for studies or projects of an educational nature.

Who can apply for a grant?

Grants are available to individuals who are residents of the “old” county of East Lothian. This means that of the area currently covered by East Lothian Council, residents of Musselburgh, Wallyford and Whitecraig are excluded.

Grants are available to individuals who are undertaking studies, courses or projects of an educational nature, including scholarships abroad and educational travel.

Grants are designed to provide supplementary support to individuals. They are not sufficient nor intended to be an individual’s primary source of income.

You must provide full details of costs (including values) which you will incur as a result of your course or project. Examples include:

  • course fees
  • accommodation
  • travel expenses
  • books and materials
  • living expenses
  • specialised equipment.

Awards may be subject to some means testing. You must provide details of your income or your household’s income.

If you are dependent on your parents or guardian, section A of the formshould be completed and your form must be signed by a parent or guardian. Otherwise, complete section B of the application form.

If you have used your parents’ address for your eligibility as a resident of East Lothian then you will be deemed to be financially dependent on your parents.

Applications are considered at four meetings per year. These are approximately February, May, August and November.
