NYCoS Partnership

The National Youth Choir of Scotland provides opportunities for young people, teachers and choir directors to support and develop choral singing across Scotland.

East Lothian Regional Choir

This year, we are delighted to have supported them in establishing an East Lothian Regional Choir. This is open to young people in P4-P7 and runs on a Thursday evening (6-7pm) in Letham Mains Primary School in Haddington.

YMI Singing Groups Project

For many years, the Arts Service and Youth Music Initiative (YMI) have offered offered free singing sessions to all East Lothian primary school pupils from primary three to primary seven.

The aims of this project are for young people to enjoy singing, develop their musicianship, make friends and increase self confidence. Singing has been shown to positively affect mental health and well being, and contribute to higher achievement in other academic subjects. As well as learning songs, the children play musical games specifically designed to support the project aims mentioned above. The games are an important part of the programme and a favourite with the children.

This year, we are changing the way we run the singing groups. Instead of weekly sessions we will run three Sing and Play days and a full weekend of fun including two performances. Sessions are open to young people in P3 to P7 and are FREE to attend.

The project will take place in March 2026.
