East Lothian has a great choice of cycle routes, ranging from coastal roads to off-road paths connecting our towns and villages. We are committed to enhancing these routes and encouraging people to cycle for everyday journeys. Connecting Communities - Cycling UK partnership project

Cycling UK inspires and enables people to cycle and keep cycling. Through East Lothian Council's Connecting Communities partnership project, East Lothian's very own Cycling UK development officer is embedded in local communities across the county, using their expertise and local knowledge to work closely with community organisations, local businesses, public sector agencies and individuals.

They offer:

• A wide range of cycling and walking activities for all abilities
• Short and long-term cycle loans to help people find a cycle that works for them
• Support for local organisations to coordinate and add walking, wheeling and cycling opportunities to their existing activities
• Upskilling of volunteers to deliver activities in their communities and keep cycles working if there is no local bike shop
• Localised networks of organisations, communities and individuals supporting walking and cycling initiatives

East Lothian Cycle Forum

The East Lothian Cycle Forum meets three times a year to discuss cycling issues and related matters. You are invited to attend to offer your perspective on developing a culture of cycling in East Lothian.

Bicycle security

You can help keep your bike safe by doing the following: 

• buy a good quality bike lock - your local bike shop will offer advice on this
• lock your bike to a secure object this is cemented to the ground
• choose a location that is busy, well-lit and ideally covered by CCTV
• secure the bike, as well as any removable parts, such as wheels
• get your bike security marked, using Bike Register. This will help to identify your bike if it is recovered after being stolen. 
• consider insuring your bike, by adding it to an existing home contents policy, or taking our standalone cover
