Smoke and dust

If you are persistently being affected by excessive by smoke and dust, Environmental Health can investigate. This includes smoke and dust from domestic sources (firepits, garden bonfires, chimneys) and commercial sources such as construction sites, demolition activities, quarries.

What we cannot investigate:

  • One-off incidents
  • Smoke or dust which is not interfering with the use of your home.
  • Waste being burnt on commercial and industrial sites. This is regulated by SEPA via  Waste Management Licences and Pollution Prevention and Control Permits.
  • Smoke affecting a public road should be reported to Police Scotland.

Environmental Protection UK provide guidance on domestic burning.
