Engagement report: Local Outcome Improvement Plan

Between March and July 2025 the East Lothian Partnership has been asking communities about what the key themes and issues are for the next East Lothian Local Outcome Improvement Plan should be.  These are the results.

Children, young people and families' voices

Key themes and issues raised

1. Safety

  • safe places for young people 
  • safety in neighbourhoods and on bus travel
  • domestic Abuse and trusted places to go
  • violence - meditation and restorative justice
  • feeling unsafe - poorly maintained neighbourhoods - lighting, alleyways,
  • youth homelessness
  • what makes you feel safe - police presence

2. Health

  • mental health and neurodivergence community and peer support
  • social isolation and ageing population and activities in community to keep them connected
  • Active Travel connection particularly for buggies and wheelchairs
  • gender equality for dads
  • substance misuse and trauma informed support
  • health support that is trauma informed, proactive and whole systems approach
  • leisure and recreation spaces, 
  • minority groups health inequalities 

3. Poverty

  • cost of living - food, heating, car
  • childcare
  • transport - links, rural cost
  • climate resilience
  • skills gaps
  • healthy affordable fresh food
  • affordability of studying

Our new plan (easy read)

The next stage of public consultation and focus groups will take place in September.

Community Feedback on Themes and Priorities

Over the last six months we have been hearing from communities and residents across East Lothian on the issues which are important to them for the new Local Outcome Improvement Plan. Health, Safety and Poverty were raised as the top three issues affecting people in East Lothian from the 25,000 responses we received. Along with data we had access to, childcare, transport, climate resilience and being listened to were also strong themes.

We are currently developing the new Local Outcome Improvement Plan 2026-2036 and are reframing the language of the plan in response the discussion we have had with local communities.

Living Well, Keeping Safe and Money Matters will be the themes for the new plan.
