Children's Disability Team

The Disability Team provides a targeted service when a child or young person's disability is significantly impacting on their and their family’s daily life and wellbeing.

Children and young people we would typically support: 

• severe or profound physical disabilities 
• complex health needs including progressive conditions 
• life limiting conditions 
• severe developmental delay / severe intellectual disability 
• autism where there is another disability of a severe or profound nature 
• combination of moderate disabilities including: intellectual; sensory; mobility

Indicators of appropriate referral include: 

• child or young person in receipt of high rate Child Disability Payment
• child or young person who has been assessed as having exceptional education needs 
• child or young person who has been assessed as having exceptional health care needs 
• multi-agency response is required to maintain the child or young person safely within their family and community

Children and young people who do not meet this criteria can have their needs discussed through East Lothian's Child Planning Framework (GIRFEC).
