Adult day centres and lunch clubs support older residents to meet like-minded people, enabling social contact in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.
Day Centres in East Lothian are run and managed by voluntary sector organisations providing a mixture of day care, lunch club and drop-in facilities. They are organised by local management committees with a small number of paid staff and numerous volunteers.
Each day centre offers a distinctive service. Some centres offer intensive day care, which is mainly for frail and disabled people.
Others cater for people who are frail, disabled or simply isolated but don't need intensive day care.
If you would like to attend a day centre or lunch club, you should first contact them to find out if they have vacancies.
There is a charge for lunch, which is around £2.50, and some centres make a small charge for tea and coffee throughout the day. The centre will be able to advise you on this directly.
