The Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 removes the need for the preparation of Strategic Development Plans. Strategic planning strategy and policy will be set out in the National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4). The NPF4 contains the national land use strategy for the next 20 years but also national planning policy and the delivery timescales for National Developments.
The Scottish Government announced on the 8th November 2022 that the Revised Draft NPF4 has been published. An accompanying Explanatory Report has also been published detailing the changed made to the first draft NPF4. It is expected that the final NPF4 will be published soon.
Any further updates on the NPF4 preparation timetable can be found through the Transforming Planning section on the Scottish Government's website.
