Route to School on The Loan, Wallyford

The catchment for the new Rosehill High School in Wallyford extends to the Pinkie area of Musselburgh, and so it was necessary to adapt The Loan to cater for more pedestrians as well as cyclists using this route at busy times.

In the summer of 2023, a new set of signals was formed within the existing junction to allow pedestrians to cross the road in a direct line, and the pavement was widened to make room for both bikes and pedestrians. Where the width was constrained by the bridge over the railway, a give-and-take system was implemented to make room on the carriageway for a protected cycle lane.
