North Berwick schools

Sustrans provided the majority of the funding to improve walking and cycling access the North Berwick schools' Law Campus in 2022. The works included:

  • A new 3.2m wide zebra crossing facility on Haddington Road. This provides a safe controlled crossing point to gain access to both Law Primary School and North Berwick High School
  • Raised table on Wishart Avenue to slow vehicle speeds and provides a level crossing point for pedestrians.
  • Raised table zebra crossing facility on Lochbridge Road which makes crossing easier for pedestrians and also acts as a traffic calming measure and gateway into Lochbridge Road
  • Full signalisation of the junction of Haddington Road and Grange Road with pedestrian and cyclist crossing facilities
  • Widening of the existing footpath link from Wishart Avenue to the new crossing points to allow pupils to walk and cycle to school more safely
  • Installation of a new footpath from the southern signalised crossing to the existing sports centre car park, promoting the natural desire line for pupils to get to North Berwick High School and for members of the public using the sports centre. This will also direct people along a route away from traffic on Grange Road
  • Reduction of the junction width of Grange Crescent to slow vehicles entering / exiting the junction and reduce crossing widths for pedestrians. The junction will also incorporate a raised table with pedestrian crossover to change the priority movement at the junction to pedestrians.Photo of the new raised table in North Berwick
