Community groups

Playgroups offer early learning experiences for children aged 2 years to school age, although the majority of children attending will be aged 2 to 3 years.  Playgroups may offer a number of morning and afternoons sessions a week. Any playgroup offering sessions of more than two hours must be registered by the Care Inspectorate.  Staff in Playgroups, as with all registered providers must have a recognised qualification, be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council, (SSSC) and undertake a certain amount of hours training each year.

Playgroup can often be the child’s first opportunity to socialise and play with other children in a group care setting.  Playgroup provides an opportunity for creative and unstructured learning through play, which is important to the development of young children, helping them explore and understand their world.  The benefits of early years experiences at playgroup can support all elements of children’s development, including physical, social, emotional, language and cognitive development and communication

Gullane Childcare Hub is the only Playgroup in East Lothian which is a “Funded Provider”.  This means that as a parent you can, when your child becomes eligible, choose to take some or all of their funded hours at this setting. These hours will be funded with no charge to you as a parent.
