Community groups
Gullane Community Children's Hub is the only playgroup currently in partnership with East Lothian Council to provide early learning and childcare funded hours. You can choose to take some or all of your child's funded hours at this setting. Please contact Gullane Community Children's Hub directly to find out about the funding models they offer. Please refer to blended placements if you wish your child to use their funding at more than one early learning and childcare setting.
Playgroups offer early learning experiences for children aged 2 years to school age, although the majority of children attending will be aged 2 to 3 years. Playgroups may offer a number of morning and afternoons sessions a week. Any playgroup offering sessions of more than two hours must be registered by the Care Inspectorate. Staff in Playgroups, as with all registered providers must have a recognised qualification, be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council, (SSSC) and undertake a certain amount of hours training each year.
Playgroup can often be the child’s first opportunity to socialise and play with other children in a group care setting. Playgroup provides an opportunity for creative and unstructured learning through play, which is important to the development of young children, helping them explore and understand their world. The benefits of early years experiences at playgroup can support all elements of children’s development, including physical, social, emotional, language and cognitive development and communication.
