Early Learning and Childcare in East Lothian
Families of eligible children can access up to 1140 hours of Scottish Government funded Early Learning and Childcare each year. East Lothian Council is committed to providing high quality, flexible Early Learning and Childcare that is accessible and affordable to all families. We have a range of providers who offer places to 3 and 4 year olds when they become eligible for nursery. Your child can receive their funded hours entitlement in a school nursery or with one of our funded providers (private nursery, childminder or community group). The information on these pages explains the different options available.
Some two year olds are also eligible for early learning and chilcare funding - find out more
Early Learning and Childcare Survey 2026
We are carrying out a consultation for parents and carers of children aged from birth to five to help inform future planning and decision-making, and support the ongoing development of high-quality, accessible, and flexible EL&CC provision that meets the needs of children and families across our communities.
The survey will be open until 9 March 2026 and is available here.
