Custodial Sentences
A Court can impose different custodial sentences. The Sheriff Summary Court can impose a custodial sentence up to 12 months, but PASS legislation discourages this. For Sheriff Solemn proceedings, this rises to five years. A Justice of the Peace can impose 90 days in custody. A Judge in the High Court can sentence for any length of time including a Life Sentence.
