Five primary schools fall within Musselburgh Grammar's catchment area: Campie, Loretto RC, Musselburgh Burgh, Stoneyhill and Whitecraig primary schools. 

Two primary schools fall within Rosehill High School's catchment area: Pinkie St Peter's and Wallyford primary schools.

School information

Musselburgh Grammar School

Musselburgh Grammar School serves the town of Musselburgh and Whitecraig. It is the fifth oldest secondary school in Scotland and as such as had many alterations in its time. The school is placed over a four storey building and has over 60 classrooms, as well as science laboratories, workshops, gym halls, dance studio, a library and offices and spaces for staff.

Campie Primary School

Campie Primary School opened in 1919 and has been refurbished and extended since. The school currently contains 18 classrooms, a nursery, small community room, dining hall, sports hall, music room, ICT suite, kitchen and a number of offices for staff and the school leadership team.

Loretto RC Primary School

Loretto RC Primary School is situated in the centre of Musselburgh and also serves the communities of Whitecraig and Wallyford. The main building dates from 1899 and has been modernised and refurbished over the years. It contains a dining hall, sports hall, library, music room, small general purpose room, offices and an additional occasional teaching classroom. All classes participate in outdoor learning and activities within the spacious school grounds.

Musselburgh Burgh Primary School

Based in the centre of Musselburgh on Kilwinning Street and serving a wide catchment area within the town, Musselburgh Burgh Primary School was built in 1964 as a merger between the original Burgh School and Fisherrow School. The ground floor of the building houses two classrooms, nurture room, large assembly hall with stage, dining hall, sports hall, nursery, meeting room and several offices. Ten further classrooms, a library and Support for Learning room are located in the two-storey block. There is a transportable unit in the playground which is also used as a general purpose area.

Pinkie St Peter's Primary School

Pinkie St Peter's Primary School was built in 1956 and consists of a part single and part two-storey building with a dining room and a gym hall. Work on a large extension commenced in November 2014, completing in August 2016. The school has a separate sports pavilion attached which is also used by the wider Musselburgh community. Construction of a new nursery completed in late 2023,

Stoneyhill Primary School

Stoneyhill Primary School officially opened on 1 November 1996. The building has since been extended and now contains seven semi-open plan classrooms, four enclosed classrooms, an open library, meeting room, music room, staff room and offices, kitchen, dining hall, sports hall, nursery and resource store room. As well as the playground, the children can access the adjacent park/field via a gate from school grounds.

Wallyford Primary School

The expansion of the Wallyford community led to the requirement for a new primary school. Built to the east of the village, the new Wallyford Primary School opened in 2019; it was developed to provide modern facilities that would maximise children’s opportunities for learning while accommodating a growing school roll. It contains 28 classrooms and a further four nursery playrooms offering up to 120 early learning and childcare spaces. The school also benefits from a large dining hall, sports hall with retractable bleacher style seating for whole school assemblies, events or performances.

Whitecraig Primary School

Whitecraig Primary School was built in 1958 and serves the village of Whitecraig and surrounding area. There are five classrooms, a nursery, a general purpose and Support for Learning room, nurture base, a large hall which acts as the school's dining hall as well as its space for sports, assemblies and performances. Construction of a replacement school building on land adjacent to the current site is underway to accomodate a growing school population from housing development in the area.

It includes staff costs, school resources, building costs including gas, electricity, water and rates and other costs including cleaning, catering, refuse collection and transport.
