Dunbar Grammar School
Dunbar Grammar is on a large site in the west of the town. A £10.38m extension to the school building was completed in 2018, to accommodate a growing school roll due to development in the area. The L-shaped extension includes a Home Economics department with a training kitchen, a new learning resource centre, classrooms, pupil support suite and offices, as well as a full-sized all weather sports pitch outside. At its heart is a bright and modern social hub with a grab and go snack bar and ‘bleacher’ style seating, which gives pupils a place to meet, eat and socialise at break times. The home economics rooms run alongside this area with a servery hatch so that pupils can hone their catering skills on their peers and invited community groups. Alterations were also made in the existing building to provide new science labs, drama studios, technologies rooms and modern languages classrooms.

Dunbar Primary School
Scotland’s largest primary school by roll, Dunbar Primary School is split over two campuses: John Muir campus serving nursery to P3 and Lochend for primaries 4-7. The decision to split the school population over two campuses, rather than develop a new second primary school for the town’s growing population, was taken after extensive public consultation which identified this as the preferred option. The roll continues to rise as additional housing is planned for Dunbar. The school also includes The Cove, a specialist communication provision for primary pupils with additional support needs. All buildings benefit from extensive outdoor space and the school has been particularly proactive in promoting active travel to its facilities.

East Linton Primary School
East Linton Primary School dates back to 1880 and has been extended several times to provide eight classrooms, a nursery class, two offices, a library and a hall that is used for both dining and sports. The site is surrounded by a large playground with green space and hard surfaces and bordered by housing and a new railway station which opened in 2023.

Innerwick Primary School
Innerwick is a small, rural school set within a village community near Dunbar. It was built in 1969 and consists of four classrooms and a gym hall surrounded by green space. Since 2017, the school has worked in partnership with Stenton Primary, another small school, with the Head Teacher leading both learning communities.

Stenton Primary School
Stenton is one of East Lothian’s smallest school communities. Set in the heart of the village, the school building dates is 132 years old and contains two classrooms, two offices, a dining hall and a library that is also used as a music and general purpose room. The village hall is used for PE/ sports provision. In 2017 the school entered into a partnership with Innerwick Primary, another rural school within the Dunbar area, led by one Head Teacher. The partnership offers opportunities for collaboration and sharing between the two schools whilst retaining the distinct identities and unique attributes of each individual learning community.

West Barns Primary School
Situated in ample green space on the outskirts of Dunbar, West Barns Primary School provides learning for 84 pupils in the school and also has a nursery class. The building dates from the 1970s and has been expanded to provide additional space for a growing school roll including a larger nursery, new school library and an additional classroom for primary one.
