Instrument Lending Library
The Arts Service and the Library Service are launching an instrument lending library. This means that musical instruments and equipment will be available to borrow for FREE using your library card. The instruments will be catalogued just like books and will then be available to reserve and collect from one of our six libraries:
- Haddington Library (John Gray Centre)
- Musselburgh Library
- North Bewrick Library
- Prestonpans Library
- Tranent Library (George Johnstone Centre)
- Dunbar Library (Bleachingfield Cmmunity Centre).
We also intend to run "come and try" workshops and other musical activites in these libraries so that you will have chance to learn, practise and enjoy the instruments.
You can help!
Donations wanted
We need donations of instruments to get started. From clarinets to violins, cornets to mandolins, anything goes! We are also looking for donations of digital equipment for either music production or DJing. If you have any items sitting about unused that need a new lease of life, please consider letting us care for them. We will maintain them and make sure they are put to good use. You can drop donations off to one of the six libraries listed above or to the libraries Dunbar Rd main store in Haddington.
You can also make enquiries and register donations by clicking the button below.
Large donations
For large instruments like tubas, cellos, drumkits etc, or if you are looking to donate more than a couple of instruments, please also click the button below and let us know via our form. We want to make sure the libraries aren't overwhelmed so might need to organise collection/delivery directly.
Get involved
If you are a music practitioner/teacher or someone handy with instrument repairs and maintenance please get in touch. We will have paid roles available once the library is up and running. Email cmcmillan@eastlothian.gov.uk for more information.
We are very grateful to the Music Education Partnership Group and We Make Music, who are supporting us and other local authorities to deliver this exciting initiative.
