Rent Consultation 2026-27
Rent Consultation 2026-27
Each year we consult with tenants, tenants and residents' groups and East Lothian Tenants and Residents Panel (ELTRP) on our proposal to increase rents. This is the process we use to decide how tenant feedback will be used so that your views are considered:
- ELTRP meets with the council to agree how the rent consultation will be carried out and what questions we will ask tenants
- our consultation with tenants starts
- ELTRP holds a consultation event and prepares a report with their feedback to the Cross-Party Working Group and local councillors
- all the feedback received from tenants during the consultation is used to prepare a report for council managers and councillors
- the council's budget meeting takes place in February 2026 and councillors decide what the proposed rent increase will be
- we write to all our tenants to tell them about the budget meeting and what their new rent payment will be
This year's rent increase consultation started on Wednesday 1 October 2025. All tenants will receive a letter with details of our rent increase proposal.
