Managing our town centre parking

We've been working on proposals to improve parking management in our town centres. We believe that better management of parking will:

  • increase our abilities to enforce parking measures
  • improve turnover of parking spaces in our town centres to increase access to businesses and amenities
  • increase safety by managing unsafe and illegal parking behaviours
  • encourage active travel options contributing positively to climate change, health and wellbeing

East Lothian Council will meet on 9 December 2025 to discuss proposals for four towns: Dunbar, Haddington, Tranent and Musselburgh. They were developed following consultation with local communities to reflect the particular challenges in each town. This page details the proposals for each town and how they have changed to reflect the engagement held.

You can read the council meeting papers online here.
