Self Directed Support (SDS)

Giving you choice and control over how care and support is arranged.

Self‑Directed Support (SDS) is the way social care is delivered in Scotland for children, young people, families and carers. It is based on the Social Care (Self‑directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013, which aims to give people choice and control over how their care and support is arranged.

The Act is built on four human‑rights principles: participation and dignity, involvement, informed choice and collaboration

For children and young people, this means support should be shaped around what matters to the child and their family, helping them grow, stay safe, build independence and take part in family and community life.
